Why has my pump stopped working?

There may be a number of reasons why it has stopped working dependant upon its age.  In order to determine the cause, you should firstly isolate the electrical supply. Then remove the cover (unscrew 4 bolts at each corner and slowly remove the casing, also remove the sound absorber-white cloth). You will now be able to view the internal parts. There are 3 common problems that you should look for.  1. The small pin has snapped 2. Any black dust 3. The Switch shows sign of damage. Please find the explanations below to each problem.

I have removed the casing and there is black dust deposited around the pump, what is this?

The black dust is the membrane particles from the diaphragms. This means that the diaphragms need to be replaced.  If the pump continues to run (adding a new safety pin without replacing diaphragms) it will result in the pump being damaged beyond repair.

My pump has become very noisy, why?

The diaphragms may have started to fail or have failed. The longer they are left without replacement, the more damage may be caused to other parts of the pump.

What is the life expectancy of a Hiblow HP pump?

As Hiblow is the leading manufacturer of linear technology, it has exceptional build quality along with extremely robust parts. Typically our customers are seeing in excess of 8-10 years of life, if all necessary precautions are taken and the service instructions are followed.

Where can I find the operating manual?

You can find all the service manuals along with the data sheets for the HP and XP series on our ‘downloads page’

How often should the diaphragms be changed?

We recommend that you replace we them every 5 years, or when there is reduced performance or they show signs of wear.  This can significantly prolong the life of the pump. You should always replace both diaphragms at the same time.

Where do you ship to?

We ship mainly to the UK and Ireland, but worldwide delivery is available.

The small safety screw has snapped, why is this?

The safety screw (pin) is a safety device. The screw is designed to break if the diaphragms fail. We highly recommend that you DO NOT just replace the pin or try to repair the pin. This will only do more damage to the pump. You need to replace the diaphragms along with the safety screw.

The SP switch shows sign of damage, what should I do?

If there is any type of damage to the switch you should immediately replace with a new switch. Failing to do so could result in the pump being damaged beyond repair.

How often should I replace the filter?

If you remove the top cover of the pump you will find the inlet filter. This small rectangular filter should be washed out every 6 months and replaced every year. Failing to do so can reduce the pumps flow by up to 30% and cause possible overheating.

How can I tell how old the pump is?

The first four digits of your serial number, located on the side of the pump e.g 0804 are the year and month, so 2008 April.

What is the most common problem?

In most cases the customer says their pump has stopped working. This is almost always due to the diaphragms failing. When this happens the safety screw snaps. This is a safety feature which breaks the connection and  prevents further damage to the other parts of the pump.

How long will it take for my items to arrive?

We keep stock of all HP and XP pumps and spares. If ordered before 14:00 the goods will be dispatched same day, and will be with you the following day. (TNT next day delivery as standard) UK Mainland only

What is the difference between the diaphragm and the chamber block?

The chamber block is the complete chamber that includes the diaphragms and valves. The valves get clogged when the diaphragms fatigue or fail. Many people choose the chamber block rather than just the diaphragms as it is much easier and straight forward to replace. The chamber block kit also includes the replacement safety screw.
